[Anyone who knows Jimmy at all might have noticed that he's been unusually absent from the Network lately. Ignoring new arrivals, and only talking to people sparingly- and it's always, always via text. In fact, Jimmy hasn't made a video post to the Network himself in several months, and it seems like that hasn't changed.

It's jarringly unusual behavior, but the sudden message that pops up on the Network this afternoon might be the most surprising thing of all, even moreso than the radio silence. No attempts at filtering, either.]

What do you think 'Hell' is?

I didnt know about anything like Hell, back home.
but i mean everybody keeps saying the same thing mostly
fire, demons, eternal punishment and misery

ive been thinking about it a lot lately
and there's something that's got me really worried
but i havent talked about it to anybody until now cause i

i wasnt sure if people would think i was crazy for saying so or something but i guess not
since everybody comes from different worlds and all

I've done a few things back home that people would probably think I'm crazy for, so I sort of know what you're talking about with not wanting to discuss it with a lot of people, even if it's worrisome. I'm not going to make you talk about it with me, but the option is there.

[Jimmy takes the handkerchief from Joker, smiling a bit more when Leader pushes his head beneath his arm and works his head into Jimmy's lap.]

And with that his next message comes with a lock, even though it's going to follow pretty much what he's already been saying. Still, he'd rather not have everyone on the Network just perusing through these conversations.]

how people describe Hell. you know, the basic description of it, like you said?
that's....exactly what my home is like. its almost like you all have been to my home and have seen it and can tell me exactly what it looks like
and tell me that its a place for terrible people to go when they die, to suffer and be miserable forever

i mean
i dunno why ive ever thought much different
it's called Miseryville.
i just didnt know what Hell was when I was back home
but now I do.
and ive been trying to figure out what that means for a while now

[It takes him a moment to figure out where he should even begin with that; there are a few things he's learned over his time here (don't insist that couldn't possibly be the case, don't invalidate it with what you think the answer should be, just try to listen without drilling in the thought that you're right because you're always right about things) but they aren't much help in terms of finding what he should actually say. Because what do you...do...with that...]

Are you afraid that maybe you did something bad - something that would make you deserve to be there?

like im not so worried about miseryville being Hell so much as my reason for ending up there in the first place
i can't remember
ive lived there for as long as i can remember
but i remember things that don't even exist in miseryville, like snow
nobody else even knew what snow was when i brought it up one day
so that means i had to have lived somewhere else before

[If nothing else, though Jimmy's eyes are red and he looks like he's recently been through Hell and back, there's a smile on his face that hasn't been there for two weeks.

With any luck, nothing else undue will happen to make it go away again any time soon.]

...I don't know what your circumstances were, obviously, but even if it is Hell, it's possible that whatever happened isn't your fault.

Right. The place where this person is from is like Hell. He'd considered the possibility that maybe it just had the fire and creepy ambiance in common with his world's version of Hell and that maybe it was fine otherwise, given that they do, after all, come from different worlds, but it sounds like it has the suffering in common as well. Yusuke isn't sure how to feel about that. Nor is he sure how to feel about the revelation that the person he's talking to is apparently fine with it... or was until recently, anyway.

Ultimately, it's the way Jimmy seems so obviously messed up about it right now that keeps Yusuke from immediately reacting with anger like he might've done otherwise - that, and the fact that he isn't sure whether or not he fully understands how Jimmy's world works in the first place. After all, it's one thing if the people there are there because they did something fucked up; it's another thing if they just happen to live in a place ruled by an asshole.]

Why does your leader want people to be miserable so much? Is it supposed to be punishment of some sort, or is he just some kind of screwed up sadist who likes to abuse his power?

well its kindof his job
his dad did it and his dad's dad did it before him
so its this long line of rulers who did pretty much the same sort of thing
and he really likes it
i dunno if its a punishment but it doesnt feel like it is
