009 | Video | Forward dated to 2/17

[Jimmy isn't an uncommon presence on the Network, but it's actually been a while since he's posted a video of any kind. Today when the feed flickers on he can be seen sitting cross-legged on the edge of a bed in a hotel room with a Quilava draped bodily over his shoulder. Even after evolving, Fahren seems to have remained as clingy as ever and doesn't plan on leaving any time soon. Judging by the sound of hailstones clattering against the roof in the background, that likely means it's going to be another stay-in-with-your-fire-types (and electric dog, who is permanently glued to Jimmy's side regardless) kind of day, but that doesn't make Jimmy any less excited. Today is pretty special, after all.]

Would you guys believe it if I told you that it's been a whole year today since I first got here? It doesn't really feel like it's been that long already...but at the same time, it's like I've been here forever.

[He lifts a hand to pet the side of Fahren's face when the Pokemon turns to nuzzle his head into his neck with a yawn.]

There's also another thing I realized a couple months back, sometime last year. I've seen lotsa people here have birthdays and stuff, but I actually can't remember when mine is. I think...maybe it might've been sometime around now?

But since I don't really know, I'm just gonna say it's today, since I've been here a year. [He grins brightly and leans back a little, showing his ever present gap-tooth.] So I'm sixteen now! I was thinkin' bout going outside to do something for it, but the weather is pretty bad...but that's alright! I don't mind stayin' inside so much, 'specially since it's so cold.

[He lowers the Gear, which shows a clearer shot of the rest of his bed. His Manectric is there stretched out on his side, and taking up the entire rest of he bed is Inferno the resident flame moth acting as the fuzziest heated blanket on the planet.]

Anyways, I hope everybody had a good Valentine's this weekend! I had a whole lot of fun and even met some new people! And ate a whoole lotta chocolate, too.

[With another small laugh he ends the feed there.]

Ah, nahh, I just left a while ago, actually! Me and Joker are here in Ecruteak right now, but we'll prolly be heading back soon when the next show happens. How come?

Well, you asked me and I didn't ask you back and it's polite.

_{[That is really just teasing.]}

I made another friend who's in Goldenrod so I thought I could visit you both at once if you're still there when I get there. I just wanted to check!

[That causes Jimmy to brighten even more almost immediately, gasping softly.]

Oh! I would love that, Molly! You'll have to call me when you get there, okay?

[Legit, he will take the day and fly back just to see you, don't think he won't.]

_{[.. oh, yay! She hadn't expected exactly that kind of reaction, but she smiles sunnily back at him.]}

Okay, I promise!

I'm really excited to go there. It's gonna be so much fun!

I think you'll really like it there! It's such a big city, so there's a whole lot of stuff to do.

Yeah! I've only ever lived in big cities. It's a little weird how small these towns are. I mean, it's not bad, but it's weird.

Everything gets so quiet.

I know what you mean. I've always lived in a city, too. I mean, there are forests 'round Miseryville, but they're on the edge of town.

[Ah, that...might be the first time he's let slip the name of home to Molly, but he doesn't seem to have caught that he did.]

_{[... well, Molly certainly catches it, and it shows in an immediate frow.]}

Is it really called Miseryville?

[It takes a moment to register, but when it does Jimmy's eyebrows raise a bit. He hesitates, at a loss for words for a very brief moment.]

Yeah, yeah it is!

[...]

I haven't really told you a whole bunch about home, have I?

Nuh uh.

_{[She shakes her head, now very curious and also kind of ... confused. Concerned, maybe? What kind of place would get called that?]}

It's not really miserable, is it?

[Jimmy never minds talking about Miseryville, not really. In fact, he loves telling people about home! Even knowing what he does now...he doesn't feel the need to make the conversation private.

But at the same time, what would have been unbridled excitement is a bit more subdued.]

It's supposed to be. Y'see, Miseryville is run by a guy named Lucius, who is like the mayor of the town. His job is to make sure that everybody living in Miseryville is as miserable as possible. It's always hot and it can be pretty dangerous...but honestly, it really isn't all that bad.

[And usually, once Jimmy starts naming people from home, whoever he's talking to begins to catch on.]

_{[He can probably see the moment that confused kind of concern turns into all-out worry.]}

But ... that sounds like a bad guy.

_{[Just ... help her out.]}

Lucy's not so bad! He can be super grumpy, but he's really a good guy once you get to know him.

[He...he really isn't.]

And besides, it's...a family business anyway. His grandpa did it, and his grandpa's grandpa did it, and Beezy's gonna hafta do it one day.

But that's ... awful. It's mean.

Why don't they stop doing it?

Well uuh...Lucy doesn't really mind his job, so much.

[HE LOVES IT.]

But his son doesn't really...care so much, so they kinda butt heads about it sometimes.

But it's wrong! Don't you think it's wrong?

_{[Please don't be okay with the bad guy behaviour, Jimmy, please]}

[Molly's sudden concern takes him a little by surprise and causes him to falter.]

I...of course I do, Molly. I've told Lucy before that I wish things didn't have to be that way. And I try to get him to do things that aren't so bad, but it doesn't...always work.

Y'see, I live in Miseryville just like everybody else. But what I try to do is make it a happier place for everybody. Even if all I can do is make other people smile.

[And that is true.]

_{[She calms down a bit at that, because that again firmly places Jimmy as a good guy. Nodding, she relaxes just a fraction, but she's still not okay with what he's telling her.]

[Kind of .. hugs herself with one arm.]}

Okay.

It just ... I don't like it. It's mean. What's the point of making people upset and sad all the time?

[Jimmy hesitates, glad that his Quilava is still there so he can lift a hand to pet the side of his head to give himself something to do with it. It redirects any nervous energy so he can keep on smiling, knowing he can't really tell her that Miseryville is the way it is because the people there are supposed to be miserable for a reason.]

I know. It's not...really something that can be helped right now...but that's why I do everything I can to make people as happy as possible. And a lot of the time, I'm happy to say it isn't hard to do.

_{[She hesitates too for a moment, but then she nods again, slowly accepting the terms Jimmy apparently lives with. She doesn't like them. But she can't do anything about them, and he's doing the best he can with them.]

[Still, she feels kind of ... sticky. Anxious. Her mind drifting places she doesn't want it to go, and that's why her tone remains very subdued.]}

Okay. That's good. That you're doing that, I mean.

[In response he just keeps on smiling, tipping his head to the side a bit.]

Yeah! Miseryville is actually a really cool place when you get past the misery part. There's forests and beaches and mountains and there's always something fun to do...as far as I know, it's not really all that different from most other places. It might look different, and the people living there might look different, but it's still home.

Yeah. Okay.

_{[She cautiously picks among those topics offered to her now, happy to get out of the direction the current one is taking.]}

Where is that? Is it in America?

[He blinks, moving his hand from Fahren's head to rub the side of his face.]

No, I don't think so! Miseryville is actually kindof it's own...planet, I guess? It's really the whole world, s'far as I know.

That's so weird.

_{[And now when the topic is completely turned around and she can talk about something she likes, she perks up notably.]}

You don't have continents and stuff?

Um...well, kinda? Er...it prolly sounds strange, but I've seen Miseryville from space before, and it's a whole planet.

[.....he's been to the moon, Molly.]

We've got different areas of town like Clownburg, and then up around mount Misery where the Weavils live...
