019 | Video/Action for Goldenrod

[Good morning, Johto! The first thing visible on the feed coming through is a rather close shot of Jimmy's face as he seems to be adjusting his Gear, turning it this way and that while the mic picks up his voice a tad too loudly.]

Okay, this is good. Bring it back, Clover!

["Grovyle!" a voice calls out as the Gear bounces back, quickly revealing Jimmy standing in the center of a large open field with a full belt of Pokeballs. There's a whole host of Pokemon standing behind him: a Manectric, Floatzel, and Furret on his right, and a Lopunny, Volcarona, and Goodra on his left. Every single one of them looks like they're anticipating something, the Lopunny bouncing on her paws in place while the Floatzel does the same, even occasionally punching at the air just to show off.]

Alright! Who wants to battle this morning? It's been forever since I've battled somebody in person, and I really wanna see how good you guys have trained your Pokemon! Mine are all ready for a good fight!

[All of his Pokemon give a cheer in unison, even the Grovyle on the other side of the Gear, holding it up so the video can be recorded.

Jimmy grins widely, jerking a thumb towards his chest.]

I'm in Goldenrod right now on the grounds of the Eve's Garden Circus, if you think you've got what it takes! I've got a team of my strongest Pokemon, but I've also got Pokemon at levels all across the board, if you wanna battle and haven't trained a whole lot yet.

And if you aren't in Goldenrod, I'm totally cool with flying down to Ecruteak or Azalea to meet you! Anywhere else might be a little too far to fly...but, we could always schedule something for later, too!

[Someone has gotten a liiiittle bit stir crazy lately, looks like.]

I'll be around all day, if anyone's interested!

[After he gives a short nod, the Grovyle turns off the feed.]

Oh, hey! Look at that, Leader!

[Jimmy says to his own Manectric, who perks up at the sight of another of his kind. He walks forward a little, curiously sniffing at the air while Jimmy follows him forward.]

Haha, I woulda' felt pretty bad if you got caught up in all that. So, are you ready for a battle?

_{[The Manectric following Heather is visibly excited at the sight of another one of her kind, sniffing right back and kind of wiggling energetically, but she stays next to her trainer. If nothing else, she has the 'Heel' command down pat.]}

Super ready!

Got my four picked out already-- if you wanna pick four out to make things fair and square before we start, go for it. I won't peek.

Okay! Lemme see...

[Jimmy waves his Pokemon over before returning them to their balls one by one, just to make things fair. Leader stays out, of course, because he always does. Once he's done that, he scans the balls in his hands before picking the ones he's going to use, clipping them swiftly to his belt before turning back to face Heather.]

Alright, I'm ready when you are!

_{[She grins, grabbing the first of the Pokeballs and giving it a showy toss into the air once before throwing it.]}

Awriiight, get on out there, Carousel!

_{[The ball opens mid-air in the expected flash of light and a Rapidash emerges, tossing her head and snorting, pawing at the earth with her pale hooves.]}

[Well, Jimmy could do the obvious thing and bring out his water type. Buuut...he decides it might be more fun to give himself a bit of a challenge.

So, Jimmy pulls one of his own Pokeballs off his belt before tossing it into the air as well.]

Go, Guava!

[FWUMP.

In a burst of light, a large, goopy Goodra lands with a resounding thud, her head swaying for a moment before she stands up straight again.]

Since you were so nice t'come battle with me, I'll let you make the first move!

_{[Awww, of course he'd go with something resistant to Fire. Not that she can blame him. She'd do the same if she drew second.]

[She does a mock-curtsy.]}

Why, thank you, sir. Don't mind if I do.

Carousel, you know what to do.

_{[Apparently this is a practiced strategy, because the fiery mare doesn't even need to hear the attack called out before taking off, coat shimmering as Agility boosts her speed. Her fire-type moves won't leave much of a mark on Guava, but at the very least she can run circles around her. Which is what she does, hooves churning up clods of dirt from the flat fairgrounds as she gallops.]}

[Guava tracks Carousel's movements by turning her head a little as she runs, though she doesn't move otherwise. She just waits patiently for Jimmy to give her a command.]

Rain Dance!

[The Goodra starts to bounce a little in place, swaying from side to side until- inexplicably, a light rain starts to patter down onto the field. Somehow, it's localized to just the area so Jimmy and Heather don't get soaked, and it isn't hard enough to be too much of a danger to the Rapidash. In fact, it's not inherently damaging at all.

It will boost any future water type attacks, though.]

_{[As the drizzle hits Carousel's blazing mane and tail, it sizzles and hisses. Heather snaps her fingers at her side a few times, trying to quickly calculate her next move.]

[Fire moves aren't as powerful in the rain, she knows, but she's not too worried about that. She wasn't about to have Carousel use her fire on a dragon anyway. The water boost is what's more worrying-- not to mention, if the rain gets much harder, it could make things awfully muddy and slippery on the field.]

[Better to try and nip it in the bud now and hope that the Agility boost would help her horse outrun any surges of water that the Goodra might shoot out.]}

Use Fury Attack but stay on the move!

_{[It won't do much damage, but being pelted with pointy objects from something that won't stay in one place is hella distracting and that's what she's aiming for.]}

[Hella distracting is right. Guava can't seem to turn around quickly enough to get a good bead on the Rapidash, her tentacles whipping in frustration before Jimmy calls out to her:]

It's okay, stay put! We're gonna let her come to you, not the other way around. Now, use Muddy Water!!

[All of the rain falling is doing a good job of starting to get the ground wet and soggy, just adding fuel to the attack that would no doubt be stronger over time, as Heather predicts. There's a huge wave barreling into Carousel's path now while Guava winces beneath the onslaught of the Fury Attack.]

_{[There's not really any time to debate a course of action here. If Carousel winds up swept up in that water, they're sunk.]

[Heather cups her hands around her mouth and yells,]}

BOUNCE!

_{[Not breaking her gallop, the Rapidash bunches her muscles and then leaps as the water comes rushing towards her-- far higher than any normal horse had any right to go. Unfortunately, there's no place to land but in the water, or coming down on Guava. As much as both Carousel and her trainer are loathe to do exactly what their opponents are obviously planning for, it's (probably?) a better option than quenching all that fire.]

[Carousel comes rocketing straight down at the Goodra with her diamond-hard hooves ready to deliver the hardest landing she can.]}

[Jimmy watches in shock as the Rapidash leaps over the rushing water, coming down directly at his Goodra. While he wanted her closer, he wasn't expecting an attack from above. So, he shouts the first thing that comes to mind in a panic-]

Protect!!

[Guava steels herself and braces for the impact, aiming to use her big, squishy body as a buffer against those powerful legs.]

_{[Horses can't exactly widen their eyes, but if they could, Carousel's would have. Instead, her trainer's got that particular aspect of reaction covered.]

[Already being in free-fall, there is literally no way for the Rapidash to slow down or change direction.]

[What happens next almost seems to go down in slow-motion.]

[Ever see one of those videos of a dog sprinting full-force into an overinflated beach-ball that's bigger than they are?]

[That's kind of what happens.]

[Carousel 'hits' the goopy, rubbery dragon full-force and ricochets back off into the air at a sharp, completely-different angle than the one of entry, all limbs flailing.]

[There she goes.]}

[Guava's entire body vibrates upon impact, nearly enough force to knock her off her feet as the poor Rapidash goes sailing away, leaving Jimmy to just stand there and gape in shock. He was hoping the attack would be blocked but that...sure happened.

And there she goes.

He actually doesn't command Guava to do anything else just yet, which is probably a good thing since the Goodra's pretty dazed from the hit.]

_{[A thin beam of red light zaps across the field, then back as Heather VERY HASTILY returns the midair Rapidash to her Pokeball-- she knows that counts as a loss but she's been riding long enough now to know that horses are not animals meant to take a tumble as serious as what would inevitably result from a fall like that.]

[But even once Carousel is safely returned, Heather continues to stare straight ahead, as though still processing exactly what she'd just seen.]

[Finally, she speaks.]}

... That was the most amazing thing I've ever seen.

[Yeah, it...it takes Jimmy almost a full minute to recover as well as the rain patters to a stop, leaving Guava standing awkwardly in the middle of the field with her arms bashfully drawn to her chest.]

N...no kidding.

[Jimmy.]

Uuuhh- s-sorry 'bout that, though! Is she alright?

Well, she might have whiplash, but I returned her before she hit the ground, s-so... hopefully!

_{[She's gonna need to give Carousel so many apology carrots later.]}

... SO! Uh, round two?

[Jimmy might have to as well after that, god.]

Y-yeah, round two! How 'bout I go first this time?

[Heather has earned the advantage, after all that.]

Uhhh yeah! Yeah, how 'bout you do that.

_{[UR A GOOD SPORT JIMMY]}

[ALRIIIGHT

Jimmy returns Guava for the time being, putting the ball back on his belt before switching out for another.

This time, a Lopunny appears on the field in front of him, bouncing lightly on her heels for a moment before coming to a stop with her paws held close to her chest.]

Honey's gonna be up against you this time!

_{[She's not planning on letting this opportunity to play the field a little to her advantage slip by.]

[So as soon as she sees the Normal-type rabbit Pokemon spring out, she already knows who she's selecting.]

[Grabbing another one of her Pokeballs, she tosses it out, trying to gain back a little focus.]}

Val, go!

_{[One flash of light later and a Hitmonchan is standing lightly on the muddy earth, tapping its gloves together lightly.]

[It's worth noting that although he's definitely looking right at Honey, he, uh. Doesn't seem to have eyes. Or if they are, he's just. Keeping them shut for some reason. Maybe he's Brock reincarnated into a Pokemon.]}

[A fighting type, huh? Jimmy's not too surprised, but he's also not too worried just yet. He's had Honey since the very beginning. Where she'll lack in a type advantage, he hopes she'll be able to make up for it with brute strength. ...or maybe Val just won't be able to see her, who even knows.

Which means, he's going to have to play his side a little more carefully this time around.]

I hope you're ready, Val, cause we're not going easy! Honey, use Agility!

[The rabbit hops lightly on her heels, stepping quickly through the muddy puddles as her speed boosts, her paws nearly a blur as she runs a wide circle around the Hitmonchan.]

_{[Oh boy, she recognizes this strategy! It's a good one! But she grins, because she's confident she knows how to beat it.]}

Play it cool, Val!

_{[Not entirely unlike Guava earlier, the Hitmonchan remains in place as Honey becomes a straight-up blur. Almost like he's meditating, but actually he's just paying very close attention to the pitter-patter of rabbit feet in the mud.]}

--now Mach Punch!

_{[Like a striking snake, one of those gloved hands snaps out with alarming accuracy.]}

[Hey, he learned from the best!

Jimmy watches intently as Honey runs around Val, her speed getting faster and faster until--

The punch is so loud and solid it's like it hit a tree, striking the Lopunny and knocking her off course. She staggers and loses her footing, immediately falling into the mud and sliding for a few feet until her previously pristine fur has gotten all nice and filthy.

When she does manage to resurface with a good chunk of her HP removed, its with a furious snort, her head shaking to slop off the excess mud. She's still got that speed boost, but at what cost? Her beautiful fur, apparently.]

It's okay, just shake it off! Use Dizzy Punch!

[HERE SHE COMES, running as hard and as fast as she can with one of her paws drawn back into a fist, ready to give Val as much as she just got.]

_{[Poor Honey. Heather actually winces a little, but Val seems unmoved. When the Lopunny goes sprawling, he reassumes the posture of a boxer, gloved fists held up at the ready.]

[Punching moves are his specialty, so when Honey strikes back, he moves accordingly to parry the blows, backstepping and sidestepping to lead her.]

[But her Agility did do its job and he can't block all the punches. One collides with the side of his head and he stumbles slightly.]}

[The Lopunny seems delighted at the punch, and though she'd like to keep wailing on him, she knows better than to just keep punching without Jimmy's say so. She pulls back slightly, bouncing on her heels until she hears him shout:]

Yeah, that's it! Keep it up!

[If it's a boxing match Val wants, it's a boxing match he's gonna get, even if Honey isn't a fighting type.]
